Is 22 grams a good weight for a beginner?

Yes. 22 g is a common middle weight that suits most new steel tip players and works well on standard bristle boards. Lighter throwers may prefer 20 g or less.

Will these work on an electronic dartboard?

No. These are steel tip darts and will damage soft tip electronic boards. Use them only on bristle or sisal boards.

How do these compare with tungsten darts?

Nickel barrels are less dense, so a 22 g nickel dart is noticeably thicker than a 22 g tungsten dart. Tungsten costs more but allows slimmer barrels and tighter grouping.

What comes in the set?

Viper sells these as a set of three darts with shafts and flights fitted. Check the listing for the exact flight style and whether a case is included.

Are they worth it over a cheap brass set?

Yes, if you want steel tips and a heavier dart. Nickel holds up better than painted brass, and the machined grip is more usable than smooth brass barrels.

When is the best time to buy?

Budget dart sets see small discounts around major sales events and the holiday season. Outside those windows the price tends to stay flat.

Our take on the Viper The Freak Steel Tip Darts

Viper The Freak is a steel tip dart set from Viper's budget line, sold in 22 grams with a nickel-finished barrel. The barrel has a distinctive machined, multi-groove shape that gives grip along most of its length. It is a casual and league-entry dart rather than a tournament-grade tungsten set. Pricing on this set has stayed in the low-to-mid budget tier for steel tip darts, so the latest price sits close to its usual range rather than at a deep discount.
