Our take on the Wade Logan Laguna HDPE Rocking Adirondack Chair

The Wade Logan Laguna is a rocking version of the classic Adirondack chair, built from HDPE, the same weatherproof plastic used in poly lumber furniture. It combines the wide arms and slanted back of an Adirondack with curved rockers, so it suits porches and patios rather than a flat lawn. HDPE resists rot, fading and insects, and needs no staining or sealing. It holds a 4.6 rating from 544 ratings, which is strong for outdoor seating in this price class.

Pros
  • HDPE won't rot, splinter or need repainting
  • Rocking motion is easier on the back than a fixed Adirondack
  • Wide arms hold a drink or a book
  • UV-stabilized plastic holds color better than painted wood
  • Heavier than resin chairs, so it doesn't blow over easily
Cons
  • Rockers need a level surface; they dig into soft grass
  • Plastic look won't suit every porch
  • Heavy to move around
  • Assembly is required and can take a while
  • Less contoured seat than a high-end wood Adirondack

Questions and answers

Is HDPE better than wood for an Adirondack chair?
For low maintenance, yes. HDPE won't rot, crack or need annual sealing, and it doesn't splinter. Wood looks more traditional and can be sanded and refinished, but it needs that work every year or two.
Can I use it on grass?
It works best on a porch, deck or patio. On soft grass the curved rockers sink in and the chair can tip or stop rocking, so put it on a hard, level surface.
How much assembly does it need?
It ships flat and has to be put together, typically with the arms, back, seat and rockers bolted on. Set aside an hour or so and use two people for the larger pieces.
Will the color fade in the sun?
HDPE is UV-stabilized, so it fades far more slowly than painted wood or cheap resin. Over several years of direct sun some lightening is normal.
Is it wide enough for larger adults?
The Adirondack shape gives a roomy seat and wide arms, and owners of larger builds report it fits well. Check the listed seat width and weight capacity against your needs.
When is it cheapest?
Outdoor furniture discounts most in late summer and early fall, and again around Black Friday. Prices also dip in winter, when demand for patio chairs is lowest.
