Our take on the Wellco 40 x 118 in White Thermal Insulation Ceramic Fiber Paper with Adhesive Backing

Wellco Ceramic Fiber Paper is a 40 x 118 in roll of thin, white ceramic fiber insulation with adhesive backing, rated for continuous use up to 800°C and a 1260°C classification temperature. At 1-6 mm thick and about 200 kg/m3 density, it is a flexible wrap for gaskets, heat shields and furnace linings rather than a structural board. The best new price is $66.59 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is no meaningful price history to compare against.

Pros
  • Handles continuous 800°C service with a 1260°C classification
  • Adhesive backing speeds up installation on flat surfaces
  • Thin and flexible, so it bends around curves and joints
  • Low organic content (≤9%) and low loss on ignition (≤10%)
  • Large 40 x 118 in roll covers a lot of area
Cons
  • Ceramic fiber is a respiratory irritant; cutting needs a mask and ventilation
  • Adhesive backing may not hold at the top of the temperature range
  • Density and tensile strength are modest (≥0.3 MPa), so it tears easily
  • Only one store lists it, so no price competition
  • Thickness is listed as a 1-6 mm range, not a fixed spec

Questions and answers

Is ceramic fiber paper safe to handle?
It is a respirable fiber product. Cut it outdoors or with extraction, wear a P2/N95 mask and gloves, and keep it away from food and living areas. Seal cut edges where possible.
Will the adhesive backing survive 800°C?
No adhesive holds at that temperature. The backing is for positioning during assembly; once the paper reaches high heat the glue burns off and the paper relies on mechanical fixing.
What thickness am I actually getting?
The listing gives a 1-6 mm range rather than a single figure. Confirm the exact thickness with the seller before ordering if your gap tolerance is tight.
Can I use it as a stove or fireplace gasket?
It can work as a flat gasket, but rope gasket is the usual choice for door seals. Ceramic paper compresses and can tear, so check the gap and fix it mechanically.
Is $66.59 a good price?
Only one store lists it new at $66.59 as of November 4, 2026, so there is no competing price to judge against. Compare per-square-foot cost with other ceramic paper rolls before buying.
What comes in the box?
One roll of adhesive-backed ceramic fiber paper, 40 x 118 in, in a carton. No fixings or tools are included.
Where is the Wellco 40 x 118 in White Thermal Insulation Ceramic Fiber Paper with Adhesive Backing cheapest?
At Amazon, for $66.59, as of our latest check.
