Questions and answers

Is the price of $1,198 for one bookcase or the set of two?
The listing is for a set of two wide bookcases, and $1,198 at west elm as of November 5, 2026 is the price for that set. That works out to about $599 per unit.
Can I adjust the shelves for tall books?
No. All five shelves are fixed, so plan around the shelf spacing as built. Oversized art books and tall vases may not fit.
Does it need assembly?
No assembly is required when it arrives with white-glove delivery. The unit is freestanding and sits on the floor.
How much weight can each shelf hold?
Each shelf is rated for 100 lbs. That is enough for dense rows of hardcovers, but keep heavy items spread across shelves rather than stacked on one.
How deep is it, and will it fit against a wall?
It is 15.4 inches deep and 38 inches tall, with an open back. It is designed to stand against a wall, and the open back means you will see the wall color through it.
Is it solid wood?
No. It is acacia veneer over engineered wood with a water-based acorn finish. The veneer gives the acacia grain look at a lower weight and cost than solid wood.
Where is the West Elm Mid-Century Collection Open Shelf Bookcase, Wide, Acorn, Set of 2 cheapest?
At west elm, for $1,198.00, as of our latest check.
