Is this drive worth $172.02?

That is on the high side for a 1TB Gen4 NVMe drive. It makes sense if you need a known brand and fast Gen4 speed now; otherwise compare against other 1TB Gen4 drives before buying.

Will it work in my laptop?

It needs an M.2 slot that supports NVMe, ideally PCIe Gen4. Check your laptop's slot length and keying first; it will run at Gen3 speed on older machines.

Do I need a heatsink?

For light use, no. For sustained large writes or a Gen4 desktop build, a motherboard heatsink or aftermarket one keeps speeds from dropping.

How does it compare with a SATA SSD?

Much faster in sequential and random transfers, so boots and app loads are quicker. The gap is smaller in everyday light use than benchmark numbers suggest.

The drive itself. Mounting screws and a heatsink are usually not included, so check your system for both.
