Is the Wrangler 30-inch duffel carry-on size?

No. At 30 inches wide it exceeds carry-on limits for major US airlines and is meant to be checked.

How much does it hold?

About 76.7 liters, which suits a 5- to 7-day trip. The rigid drop-bottom section adds separate space for shoes or bulky items.

It has a case locking catch on the zippers, but no built-in TSA-approved lock. Add a TSA padlock if you check it.

What is the drop-bottom compartment for?

It is a rigid lower section that keeps shoes, dirty clothes or gear separate from the main packing area.

Is it hard-shell or soft-shell?

Soft-shell polyester. It flexes to fit odd-shaped items but protects less than a hard case.

Rolling duffels like this tend to drop in price around back-to-school and holiday sales. Check the price history before buying.

Our take on the Wrangler 30 inch Polyester Drop-Bottom Rolling Travel Duffel

The Wrangler 30-inch rolling duffel is a soft-sided polyester bag with a rigid drop-bottom compartment, a pull-out trolley handle and dual carry handles. It holds about 76.7 liters across six pockets, sized for a 5- to 7-day trip. At 30 inches wide it is not carry-on size, so it is checked-bag luggage. It suits road trips and longer travel where you roll the bag rather than lift it.
