Our take on the Xtra Muse Gimbal Action Camera

The Xtra Muse is a black action camera with a built-in gimbal, 4K video, a 9.4 MP sensor and microSD storage. The gimbal is the selling point: it steadies footage without the software crop that electronic stabilization needs. At $270 at eBay as of November 5, 2026, it is the best new price among the six stores listing it.

Pros
  • Built-in gimbal gives real mechanical stabilization
  • 4K video and a 9.4 MP sensor
  • microSD storage keeps cards cheap and swappable
  • Compact black body that fits a pocket
  • Strong owner rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 254 ratings
Cons
  • Gimbal adds bulk and a fragile moving part
  • 9.4 MP stills are modest next to 12 MP and 20 MP rivals
  • No listed waterproof rating, so wet use is a risk
  • Battery life is shorter than a fixed-lens action cam's

Questions and answers

Is the Xtra Muse worth $270?
At $270 at eBay as of November 5, 2026, it is the lowest new price among six stores. You pay for the built-in gimbal; if you mostly film static shots, a cheaper fixed action cam does the job.
Does the gimbal replace a separate stabilizer?
Yes. The mechanical gimbal steadies the camera itself, so handheld and walking shots stay smooth without a phone-style gimbal or heavy editing.
Is it waterproof?
No waterproof rating is listed. Treat it as dry-weather gear unless you add a housing, and keep the gimbal away from sand and water.
What do I need to start recording?
A microSD card, since storage is not built in, and a USB cable to charge. The camera records 4K video and 9.4 MP stills.
How does it compare with a GoPro?
GoPros are smaller, waterproof and rely on electronic stabilization. The Muse trades that ruggedness for a real gimbal and smoother handheld footage.
When is it cheapest?
The current best new price is $270 at eBay as of November 5, 2026. Check the price history before buying to see whether it has dropped below that.
