Is the Yamaha RX-V2700 worth buying used?

Yes, if you want strong 7.1 surround sound on a budget and your sources are 1080p or older. Skip it if you need 4K passthrough, Atmos or wireless streaming.

Does the RX-V2700 support 4K or HDR?

No. Its HDMI switching predates HDMI 2.0, so it handles HD video, not 4K or HDR. Route 4K sources straight to the TV and use the receiver for audio.

Can I stream music to it over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?

Not natively. Networking is through a wired Ethernet port, so add a streamer or Bluetooth adapter if you want wireless playback.

What speakers can it drive?

It powers seven channels plus a subwoofer and has preamp outputs for external amps. It can also be bi-amped to one pair of speakers.

What is included with a used RX-V2700?

Typically just the receiver and power cord; the YPAO microphone and remote are often missing on the used market. Confirm both are included before buying.

When is the RX-V2700 cheapest?

Used prices are lowest when newer receivers flood the market after a model cycle, and private sellers usually undercut dealers. Check the price history before buying.

Our take on the Yamaha RX-V2700 Receiver

The Yamaha RX-V2700 is a 7.1-channel network AV receiver from Yamaha's late-2000s RX-V line. It delivers 980 watts total across seven linear A/B amplifier channels, decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and adds Ethernet networking, YPAO auto calibration, Zone 2 multi-room audio and HDMI switching. It is a large, heavy unit at 37.9 lbs and 17.3 inches deep, so plan for a deep shelf. It is a used-market classic now, and its price reflects that rather than current-model features.
