Best 72-inch smart TVs

Top pick: TCL QM7K (QD-Mini LED, 4K, Google TV). Mini LED backlighting with quantum dots is what makes a big screen look bright and punchy in a normal living room, and Google TV keeps the apps and casting simple. It's the set I'd buy for everyday movie and sports viewing.

• TCL Q6 QLED — the value choice: quantum-dot colour and Google TV, a step down in brightness and contrast, plenty for a bright room and casual watching.
• Samsung DU7200 — pick it if you're already in the Samsung ecosystem or want the simplest, most familiar smart interface; it's a basic LED set, so expect less contrast than the TCLs.
• LG Nano NU70 — the budget pick for a secondary room or a guest space, where a big picture matters more than deep blacks.

One note: 72 inches isn't a standard size, so these are the 70–75-inch sets that fit the same wall space.
