Best American mahjong sets with pearlized tiles

Top pick: "Santorini" with Blue Soft Case — the only set here that's a full American game (166 melamine tiles) with racks and pushers included, and it's well rated. If pearlized tiles are a must, none of these sets states them, so treat that as the one thing to confirm before you buy.

Who the others suit:

• "Koi Fish" with Wooden Case — the nicest presentation; a wooden case makes it a gift-worthy set.
• "Jade Horizon" — a step up in look without going to a wooden case.
• "Heather" and "Rosehill" — softer, more decorative styling for a set that lives on the table.
• "Huntington" — the budget-friendly way in, and the best-rated of the lot.
• "Chinoise II" and "Chinoise" — classic look with a soft case; the priciest of the group.

Check tile finish and tile count on any set before ordering — that's where these listings are thinnest.
