Best Kindle e-readers

Start with the Kindle Paperwhite. It's the one most readers should buy: a 7-inch, 300 ppi glare-free screen, weeks of battery, and waterproofing for reading in the bath or by the pool — the sweet spot between the basic Kindle and the pricier models.

Who the others suit:

• Kindle (2024/2026, 6-inch): the lightest, cheapest way in — fine for reading in bed, but a smaller screen and no waterproofing.
• Paperwhite Signature Edition: same screen as the Paperwhite, plus wireless charging and more storage — for heavy readers who hate plugging in.
• Kindle Colorsoft: if you read comics, magazines or illustrated books and want colour covers.
• Kindle Scribe: the 10–11-inch one with a pen — for annotating PDFs, textbooks and note-taking as much as reading.
• Kobo Libra Colour: worth a look if you'd rather not be tied to Amazon's store; it has physical page buttons and colour.
