Best recliner covers

Start here: the Stretch Pique Recliner Slipcover. It's the safest all-rounder — a single stretchy one-piece cover with the strongest owner ratings of the group, so it grips a recliner's arms and footrest without slipping when the chair moves.

Who the others suit:

• Waterproof Jiater covers — households with kids, pets or a coffee-in-the-recliner habit; wipe-clean and washable.
• Velvet and printed collections — if you want the cover to look like upholstery rather than a cover, or to hide a worn, dated fabric.
• Budget 4-piece stretch sets — quick, cheap protection for a chair in a den or spare room.
• Reclining armchair slipcovers (fitted, T-cushion) — the closest fit for a single armchair recliner with a defined seat cushion.

Check your chair's width and whether it's a one-seater or a reclining sofa before ordering — the sofa-sized covers won't fit a single chair.
