Best renewed Chromebooks under $60

Top pick: Dell Chromebook 11 3100 (renewed). It's the one I'd hand to a student or a kitchen-table browser: an 11.6-inch classroom-grade chassis built to survive backpacks, and it's the only renewed option here that's comfortably inside the cap with a real refurbisher behind it.

Who the others suit:

• HP Chromebook 11 G4 EE — the cheapest way in if you just need Chrome, email and a browser tab or two; it's pre-owned rather than renewed, so expect cosmetic wear.
• Lenovo 100E 2nd Gen — the sturdier-feeling alternative with more seller choice, but it sits above the cap.

Two things to know before buying any renewed Chromebook: check the listing states the battery holds a decent charge, and confirm the Chrome OS auto-update expiry date — older 11-inch models stop getting security updates years before the hardware dies. 16GB of storage is fine for web use, but nothing local-heavy.
