Best vinyl plank flooring

Top pick: Coal Harbor Extra Wide Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring — a 30 mil wear layer is the toughest here, so it shrugs off dogs, kids and heavy traffic, and the 9" x 60" planks go down fast with fewer seams. Best for busy rooms.

• Ultimate Extra Large Waterproof — 12 mm thick, the most forgiving underfoot; good over slightly uneven subfloors.
• COREtec Cairo Oak SPC — a name-brand rigid core with a 20 mil layer; pick it if you want a proven brand and a long, wide plank.
• Influence or Vigorous — the budget route for a bedroom or rental, still waterproof with a 20 mil layer.
• Achim Tivoli II peel-and-stick — only for a small, dry room where you want no tools.

Skip peel-and-stick in bathrooms or basements; go click-lock rigid core there.
