The ATH-M40x. Its wired connection has no latency and its flat tuning is meant for monitoring. The Q45's Bluetooth adds delay and its bass-heavy tuning colors the mix.

Which is better for flights and commuting?

The Space Q45. Its adaptive ANC with a Transport mode blocks engine and crowd noise, and 50 hours with ANC on covers long trips. The M40x only isolates passively.

Up to 50 hours with ANC on and 65 hours with it off. A 5-minute charge gives about 4 hours of playtime, and a full recharge takes about 2 hours over USB-C.

Is the Q45 worth the extra over the M40x?

Only if you want wireless and ANC. The Q45's lowest recorded price was $109.96 at mercari.com as of November 1, 2026; check the M40x's live price, since a wired monitor is usually cheaper.

Can I use the Q45 wired?

Yes. It has a 3.5 mm jack, so you can plug in when the battery is low or on a plane. The M40x has no wireless mode at all.
