Do the two consoles run games differently?

No. Both use the same 10.3 TFLOPS GPU, 8-core Zen 2 CPU and 825 GB SSD, so frame rates and load times match. The only real difference is the disc drive.

Which is better for a family that shares discs?

The Disc Edition. You can borrow, rent and resell discs, and it plays Blu-ray movies. The Digital Edition locks you to store downloads.

Is the Digital Edition worth $470?

Not at that price. It was $220 on November 5, 2026, and the Disc Edition is $380. Wait for a drop closer to $220 before paying more than the disc model.

Which has more storage?

Both ship with 825 GB. That holds roughly 8 to 12 large games, so plan on adding an NVMe SSD to either one.

Does either support 8K?

The PS5 hardware supports 8K output, but almost no games run at 8K. Both are 4K consoles in practice, with 120 FPS on supported titles.

Neither has a clear edge. Both use the same internals; the Disc Edition adds a moving drive, which is one more part that can wear out.
