Which is better for a dorm or rental?

The Garland Rug Sparta. At $22.59 at eBay as of November 8, 2026 it costs about half as much, and it is reversible, so wear shows less.

Is the Safavieh worth the extra money?

If you want a softer, thicker rug that holds up in a main room, yes. The gap is about $25 at eBay prices as of November 8, 2026.

The Safavieh has the thicker pile and much larger rating base, which points to better durability. The Sparta's reversible design lets you flip it to spread wear.

The Sparta has a latex action-back backing but Garland notes a pad or gripper may still be needed depending on your floor. Safavieh does not state a backing, so a pad is a safe choice for both.
