Which has the longer battery life?

The JBL Tune 520BT is rated up to 57 hours; the Sony WH-CH520 is rated up to 50 hours. Both figures are manufacturer maximums and drop with higher volume.

Is the Sony WH-CH520 worth the savings?

At $25.00 at eBay versus $44.99 at Plug, yes for most shoppers. You give up about 7 hours of rated battery and Bluetooth 5.3, but you gain app EQ and multipoint pairing.

Do either of these cancel noise?

No. Neither has active noise cancellation. The Sony listing mentions noise canceling, but its own specs say no active noise cancellation, and the JBL has none.

Which fits larger ears better?

The JBL. Reviewers of the Sony WH-CH520 call the fit small and tight and say it is uncomfortable for larger ears. The JBL uses faux leather on-ear pads without that complaint.

Can I use either for the gym?

Only with care. Neither has a water or dust rating, so sweat and rain are a risk. The Sony is often used for walks and light workouts, but it is not sweat-proof.

Which recharges faster?

The JBL recharges fully in 2 hours from empty; the Sony takes 3 hours. For a quick top-up, the Sony gives about 1.5 hours of playback from a 3-minute charge.
