Which is better for a kid's room?

The Urban Shop 16" fits a kid's room well: it is taller, color changing, and about $15 cheaper. The Lava Lite is smaller and has a glass globe, so keep it out of reach of young kids.

Is the Lava Lite worth the extra money?

Only if you want the original Lava Lite brand and a glass globe with an aluminum base. Otherwise the Urban Shop gives you a bigger, color-changing lamp for less.

The Urban Shop is 16 inches tall; the Lava Lite is 11.5 inches. The Urban Shop takes more table space in height but has a similar 4-inch width.

How long until the wax starts moving?

The Urban Shop lists a 1 to 2 hour warm-up for the motion effect. The Lava Lite uses a 15 W incandescent bulb and also needs time to heat before the wax flows.

Do both plug into a wall outlet?

Yes. The Urban Shop uses a plug-in power adaptor with an on/off switch. The Lava Lite is corded electric with an in-line switch on the cord.

Which has more color options?

The Urban Shop comes in Blue, Rainbow, Pink/Purple, Galaxy, Rose Gold, Yellow/Blue, and Pink/Orange Ombre Sunset. The Lava Lite Classic here is white wax in blue liquid only.
