Which is faster, the SN7100 or the SN770?

The SN7100. It is rated 7,250 MB/s read and 6,900 MB/s write versus 5,150 MB/s read and 4,900 MB/s write for the SN770. In games the gap is small; in large file transfers it shows.

Is the SN7100 worth $589?

No. That is far above its own $59.99 low on November 3, 2026. At $589 the SN770 1TB is the better value by a wide margin.

Which fits a Steam Deck or handheld PC?

The SN770, because it comes in M.2 2230. The SN7100 is listed only in M.2 2280, which is too long for most handhelds.

Do either have DRAM cache?

No. Both are DRAM-less; the SN770 uses nCache 4.0 and the SN7100 relies on host memory buffer. That is fine for gaming and everyday use.

Both carry standard WD warranties, but endurance figures are not listed here. The SN770 has the longer track record in the field; the SN7100 is newer.

Which should I put in a PS5?

Either fits, since both are single-sided M.2 2280. The SN7100 is faster, but only if you can buy it near its low price rather than at $589.
