What reviewers say
Xbox Series X
Owners and critics rate the Series X highly for raw power, fast loading and Game Pass value. The most common complaints are its size, the cost of storage expansion and a thin lineup of true next-gen exclusives early on.
- Quick Resume and SSD load times
- Quiet operation and solid build
- Game Pass library and backward compatibility
- Strong 4K performance on a good TV
- Big footprint for a living room shelf
- Expensive proprietary storage cards
- Limited number of console-exclusive titles
- Controller still uses AA batteries
Xbox Series X All Digital Gaming Console 1TB SSD
Owners and reviewers rate the Series X as the most powerful console of its generation, praising load times, Quick Resume and quiet operation. The all-digital version draws the same praise, with complaints mostly about the missing disc drive and storage costs.
Questions and answers
- Is the All Digital Series X as powerful as the disc model?
- Yes. Both use the same 8-core CPU, 12-teraflop GPU, 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD. The only hardware difference is the disc drive.
- Which is better for someone with a Blu-ray collection?
- The disc model. The standard Series X plays 4K UHD Blu-ray discs; the All Digital model cannot play any disc.
- Is the All Digital worth the savings?
- At $612 versus $748 as of November 3, yes if you buy games digitally. Used disc games can close that $136 gap over time.
- Do both play the same games?
- Yes. Both play the same digital library across four generations, with Smart Delivery and Quick Resume. The disc model adds physical discs on top.
- Which lasts longer?
- Neither has a clear edge. Both have the same internals and a 1TB SSD; the disc drive is the one extra part that can wear or fail on the standard model.
- Can I add storage to either one?
- Yes. Both take the Seagate or Western Digital 1TB expansion card, and both run games from USB drives.
