What reviewers say
Microsoft Xbox Series X Console 1TB Digital Edition
Owners and reviewers rate the Series X hardware highly for its speed, quiet operation and Quick Resume, and the digital edition is seen as the same console minus the drive. The main complaints are storage space and the loss of disc-based savings.
- Quick Resume switching between games
- Fast load times from the SSD
- Quiet running under load
- Strong 4K performance for the price class
- 1TB storage runs out fast
- No disc drive limits cheap game options
- Large install sizes
- Few exclusives compared with rivals
Xbox Series X
Owners and critics rate the Series X highly for raw power, fast loading and Game Pass value. The most common complaints are its size, the cost of storage expansion and a thin lineup of true next-gen exclusives early on.
Questions and answers
- Is the Digital Edition as powerful as the standard Series X?
- Yes. Both use the same custom AMD Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU at 12 teraflops, with 4K up to 120 FPS and ray tracing. The only real difference is the disc drive.
- Which should I buy if I already own Xbox discs?
- Get the standard Xbox Series X. The Digital Edition cannot play discs at all, so your physical library would be useless on it.
- Is the Digital Edition worth the savings?
- At $673.95 versus $748.00 as of November 3, you save about $74. That is worth it if you buy games digitally and do not need Blu-ray playback.
- Do both have 1TB of storage?
- Yes. Both ship with a 1TB SSD and support the same expansion storage card. Game install sizes are identical.
- Which one is better for watching movies?
- The standard Series X, because its 4K UHD Blu-ray drive plays discs. The Digital Edition streams only.
- Does the Digital Edition come with a controller?
- Yes. The box includes one Xbox Wireless Controller, an HDMI cable, power cable, and two AA batteries.
