Which is better for a beginner?

The Rydeen. At $499.00 it gets you a full 5-piece kit for less, and beginner kits take a beating anyway. Move to the Stage Custom once you are gigging.

Is the Stage Custom Birch worth the extra money?

For gigging or recording, yes. Birch shells, locking Absolute Lugs and Y.E.S.S. mounts keep tuning and tone stable, which matters more than the $397 difference once you play out.

Do either come with cymbals?

No. The Stage Custom listing states cymbals are not included, and the Rydeen specs list no cymbals. Budget for a hi-hat, crash and ride on top of either price.

The Stage Custom Birch. Its locking lugs and birch shells hold up to repeated setup and transport better than an entry-level kit. The Rydeen is fine for home practice but shows wear faster on the road.

What sizes is the Stage Custom Birch?

20" x 17" bass drum, 12" x 8" rack tom, 14" x 13" floor tom and 14" x 5.5" snare. The Rydeen's sizes are not published in its listed specs.

Can I get the Stage Custom in other colors?

The Stage Custom line comes in several lacquer finishes, though the listing here shows black. The Rydeen lists seven colors, so check stock if color matters.
