Is the Stage Custom Birch worth the extra money over the Rydeen?

For gigging or recording, yes. Birch shells, a 20" bass drum and the included double tom arm are real upgrades. For a first kit at home, the Rydeen saves about $420.

Which is better for a beginner?

The Rydeen. It costs $479.99 at eBay as of November 7, 2026 and covers the full 5-piece setup. Spend the savings on cymbals, stands and heads.

Do either of these include cymbals?

No. The Stage Custom Birch is listed as a shell pack with cymbals not included, and the Rydeen listing does not include cymbals either. Budget for a cymbal pack and stands.

Which kit is easier to carry to gigs?

The Stage Custom Birch's 20" bass drum is smaller than a typical 22", which helps in tight spaces. Its listed weight is 32.3 kg, so plan on cases and a cart either way.

The Stage Custom Birch has the sturdier reputation thanks to birch shells and Yamaha's higher-tier hardware. The Rydeen holds up for practice and light gigging but is built to a lower price.

What sizes are the Rydeen drums?

The Rydeen listing does not state drum sizes, only that it is a 5-piece kit with bass, mounted tom, snare and floor tom. Check the sizes before buying heads or cases.
