Is percolator coffee different from drip coffee?

Yes. A percolator pumps the same coffee through the grounds again and again, which makes it stronger and hotter but also more bitter. Drip coffee is brewed once and tastes cleaner.

How many cups does it really make?

The 12-cup rating uses small 5-ounce cups, so it is roughly 60 ounces, or about seven standard 8-ounce mugs. Brewing less than a full pot tends to come out weak or uneven.

Can I set it to brew in the morning?

No. This is a basic percolator with a simple on/off switch and keep-warm base, not a programmable brewer. You fill it and switch it on when you want coffee.

Does it need paper filters?

No. It uses a reusable stainless steel basket and stem, so there are no filters to buy. Rinse the basket and stem after each brew.

Is $46.95 a good price?

It is the lowest of the two new prices we track as of November 6, 2026, and it is cheap for a 12-cup stainless electric percolator. Comparable pots often run $50 to $80.

Wash the pot, basket and stem in warm soapy water, and run a vinegar-and-water cycle now and then to remove mineral buildup. Do not immerse the base.
