A first piano for tiny maestros

Questions and answers

Is the Costway 18-key kids piano worth it?

For a first keyboard for a 3- to 6-year-old, yes. At $38.99 at Best Buy as of November 5, 2026, it costs little more than a plastic toy but has a wooden body. Do not expect real piano sound or touch.

How does it compare with an 8-key toy piano?

The 18 keys cover a key and a half, enough for simple melodies and beginner songs. Most 8-key toys only play short nursery tunes. It is still far from a full 61- or 88-key keyboard.

Does it need batteries?

Yes. It takes 4 AA batteries, which are usually not included. There is no AC adapter option listed, so budget for rechargeables if it gets daily use.

What age is it for?

Costway recommends it for ages 3 and up. The small keys suit little hands, and the 18-key layout is simple enough for a preschooler to explore.

What is in the box?

The keyboard parts, the removable music stand and assembly hardware. Some assembly is required before first use.

When is the price lowest?

Toy instruments usually drop around Black Friday and in the weeks before Christmas. At $38.99 it is already near the bottom of its recent range, so waiting may save only a few dollars.
