Is a 12 x 12 rug big enough for a sectional?

Yes for most sectionals. A 12 ft. square leaves room to tuck the front legs of every seat on the rug, which is the usual rule for anchoring a seating area.

Will the ivory color show stains?

Light ivory shows dirt, spills and pet accidents more than mid-tone rugs. Spot clean quickly and use a rug pad; the beige pattern helps hide small marks.

Does this rug need a rug pad?

A pad is recommended. Power-loomed rugs are fairly thin, and a pad adds cushioning, keeps the square from sliding and helps it lie flat.

Is it safe on hardwood floors?

Yes, with a pad underneath. Check that the backing is not abrasive if the floor finish is delicate, and avoid rubber pads on freshly finished wood.

How do I clean a power-loomed rug this size?

Vacuum regularly without a beater bar, blot spills right away, and have it professionally cleaned every year or two. A 12 x 12 rug is usually too large for most home washing machines.
