Is a hand-knotted wool rug worth the price?

Hand-knotting takes months of labor and produces a rug that can last decades, which is what the $7,199.99 at Wayfair pays for. If you want a rug to keep for 20 years or more, it can be worth it; for a short-term rental or a high-moisture room, a cheaper machine-made rug makes more sense.

What sizes does this rug come in?

It is listed in 10 ft and 12 ft rectangular sizes. There are no small, runner or round options in this design.

What is the rug made of?

The pile is wool and the foundation is cotton, a standard combination for hand-knotted oriental rugs. Wool resists crushing and stains; the cotton backing gives the knots something to hold.

Does it need a rug pad?

Yes. A pad keeps the rug from sliding on hard floors, adds cushioning underfoot and reduces wear on the knots. Use a pad sized to the rug, not a smaller one.

How should I clean it?

Vacuum without a beater bar and blot spills right away with a clean cloth. For deep cleaning, have it professionally washed; do not machine wash or soak a wool rug this size.

When is the best time to buy?

Large rugs often drop during holiday sales and end-of-season clearances. With only one store listing it new, watch that listing's price history rather than waiting for a competing store to undercut it.

About the Hokku Designs Hand Knotted Grey Modern and Contemporary Wool Oriental Rug

A hand-knotted wool and cotton rug in grey, blue and black with a geometric oriental pattern, made in 10 ft and 12 ft rectangular sizes. Hand-knotting means a dense, long-lasting pile, but it also means a high price and a rug that needs a pad and careful cleaning. The best new price is $7,199.99 at Wayfair as of November 8, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is no cheaper alternative to compare against.
