Is this set good for a complete beginner?

Yes. Twelve profiles let you try different cuts without buying tools one at a time. Expect to sharpen each blade before your first project.

Do the chisels come sharp out of the box?

They are described as razor sharp, but budget 60CRV tools typically arrive with a rough grind. A few minutes on a stone and strop makes a real difference.

Can I use these with a mallet?

The willow wood handles are meant for hand pressure. For mallet work, look for chisels with hooped, impact-rated handles.

What woods do these suit?

They work best on basswood, pine and other softwoods. Hardwoods like oak or maple will dull 60CRV edges quickly.

What is included in the set?

Twelve carving tools with willow wood handles and a canvas storage bag. Check the listing for the exact blade profiles before buying.

When is the best time to buy?

The set sits at $23.98 at eBay as of November 5, 2026, with three stores selling it new. Compare those stores before buying, since budget tool prices move with sales.
