Our take on the BeaverCraft S13 Wood Carving Tools Set

The BeaverCraft S13 is a three-knife starter set for woodcarving: a detail knife, a spoon carving knife and a whittling knife, all in high-carbon steel with ashwood handles finished in linseed oil. It ships with a leather strop, green-grey polishing compound, a spoon blank and a toolbox, so a beginner can sharpen and start carving out of the box. At $38.79 at The Merri Artist as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent price range across the five stores that list it new.

Best forBeginners starting spoon and whittling workGift buyers wanting a complete starter kitCarvers who want a strop and compound includedSmall-batch and hobby woodcarving
Pros
  • Three distinct blade shapes cover detail, spoon and whittling cuts
  • High-carbon steel takes a fine edge and is easy to hone on the included strop
  • Ashwood handles are oiled and shaped for a comfortable grip
  • Comes with strop, polishing compound, spoon blank and toolbox
  • Compact and light at about 0.18 kg, easy to carry
Cons
  • High-carbon steel will rust without drying and oiling after use
  • Blades arrive sharp but need stropping to stay that way
  • Small three-knife set, no gouges or chisels for hollowing
  • Spoon blank is a single practice piece, not a project supply
