Our take on the 30,000 BTU Two Stage Upflow/Horizontal ECM Gas Furnace 96% AFUE

This is a two-stage, 96% AFUE gas furnace rated at 30,000 BTU input and 28,800 BTU output, with a 1,200 CFM ECM blower and 115 V power. It installs upflow or horizontal and measures 14 inches wide, 34-1/2 inches tall and 28-7/8 inches deep at 106 lbs. Two-stage operation runs mostly on low fire for steadier heat and less cycling than a single-stage unit. The best new price is $749 at Surplus City Liquidators as of November 7, 2026, the only new price listed.

Best forSmall homes or well-insulated spaces with low heat loadUpflow or horizontal closet and basement installsBuyers who want two-stage comfort on a budgetReplacing an older 80% furnace to cut gas use
Pros
  • 96% AFUE condensing design wastes little gas heat
  • Two-stage firing gives longer, quieter low-fire runs
  • ECM blower is more efficient than a standard PSC motor
  • Compact 14-inch width fits tight closets
  • Upflow or horizontal orientation covers most layouts
Cons
  • 30,000 BTU input suits only small or mild-climate homes
  • Condensing furnace needs a drain and PVC venting, not a metal flue
  • No air conditioner or coil included; cooling is a separate purchase
  • Single listing means little price competition
  • Propane use needs a conversion kit, often sold separately

Questions and answers

Is 30,000 BTU enough for my house?
It suits roughly a small home or a well-insulated zone, not a whole average-size house in a cold climate. Have a load calculation done; oversizing a two-stage furnace shortens its low-fire runs and hurts comfort.
What is the difference between input and output BTU?
Input is the gas burned (30,000 BTU); output is the heat delivered (28,800 BTU). The gap is the 96% AFUE efficiency, so about 4% leaves through the vent.
Does it need special venting?
Yes. As a 96% condensing furnace it vents through PVC pipe and needs a condensate drain. It cannot use a standard metal chimney flue.
Can it run on propane?
The listing says gas or propane, but propane usually requires a conversion kit with different orifices and a spring change. Confirm the kit is included or budget for it.
What comes in the box?
Expect the furnace cabinet only. The thermostat, vent pipe, condensate trap parts and propane kit are typically separate purchases.
Is $749 a good price?
It is the only new price listed as of November 7, 2026, so there is nothing to compare it against here. Compare it with other 96% two-stage furnaces of the same size before buying.
Where is the 30,000 BTU Two Stage Upflow/Horizontal ECM Gas Furnace 96% AFUE cheapest?
At Surplus City Liquidators, for $749.00, as of our latest check.
