Our take on the Abu Garcia Vengeance Casting Rod

The Abu Garcia Vengeance is a budget casting rod built on a 24-ton graphite blank with a fast, medium-heavy action. The 7-foot model is rated for 12–20 lb line and 3/8–1 oz lures, which covers most bass techniques from Texas rigs to spinnerbaits. It has a split EVA foam grip and a Texas-rig hook keeper. At $49.99 at Frank's Great Outdoors as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, making it one of the cheaper name-brand casting rods in this class.

Questions and answers

Is the Abu Garcia Vengeance casting rod worth it?
At $49.99 at Frank's Great Outdoors as of November 4, 2026, it is a reasonable entry-level casting rod. It covers common bass techniques without premium components. Expect budget-level guides and finish.
What reel and line should I pair with it?
A low-profile baitcaster in the 6.4:1 to 7.3:1 range fits the medium-heavy power. Spool it with 12–17 lb fluorocarbon or 30 lb braid with a leader, matching the 12–20 lb rating.
Is the 7-foot model good for bass fishing?
Yes. The 7-foot length with fast, medium-heavy action handles Texas rigs, jigs and spinnerbaits at 3/8–1 oz. It is less suited to finesse lures below 3/8 oz.
Can I use it in saltwater?
It is listed as a freshwater rod. The guides and blank are not specified for saltwater use, so rinse it well and expect shorter life if you take it to the coast.
What is in the box?
The rod itself, typically one piece in the 7-foot length. Reel, line and lures are sold separately.
When is it cheapest?
The current $49.99 at Frank's Great Outdoors as of November 4, 2026 is near the bottom of its recent range. Rod prices often drop during spring and holiday sales, so compare across the five stores listing it.
Where is the Abu Garcia Vengeance Casting Rod cheapest?
