Questions and answers

Is the St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass Casting Rod worth $296?
It is a premium rod with an SCIV+ carbon blank and quality cork, so the price buys sensitivity and durability. Whether it is worth it depends on how often you fish heavy cover. At $296.00 at Fish-Field as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the top of the bass rod market.
What lures does the 7'2" medium-heavy model handle?
The rod is rated for 3/8 to 1 oz lures and 8-20 lb line. That covers jigs, Texas rigs, chatterbaits and smaller frogs. It is too heavy for finesse plastics and drop shots.
Can I use this rod in saltwater?
St. Croix lists it for light saltwater use, but it is primarily a freshwater bass rod. Rinse it thoroughly after any saltwater trip to protect the guides and cork.
How does it compare to the previous Legend Tournament?
This version uses SCIV+ carbon fiber with iACT glass in the tip and Fortified Resin System construction. That combination is aimed at more sensitivity and durability than earlier blanks.
What is in the box?
The rod ships as a single rod. Reel, line and lure are not included.
When is the price lowest?
Rod prices tend to dip during spring fishing sales and end-of-season clearance. Check the price history before buying; the current best is $296.00 at Fish-Field as of November 4, 2026.
