Is the Achim Home Safe shade truly blackout?

Yes. Achim rates it as blackout, and the fabric has a heat-insulation coating that blocks most light and some UV. Expect small light gaps at the edges unless you mount it outside the window frame.

Does it need a cord or chain to operate?

No. It uses a free-stop spring system: pull the bottom bar to the height you want and it stays. Push up slightly to release and it rolls back up.

What size window does the 42 x 72 fit?

The shade is 42 inches wide and 72 inches long. For an inside mount, your window opening should be at least that wide; for a full blackout, mount it outside the frame with a few extra inches on each side.

Is it hard to install?

It mounts with standard brackets and screws, the same as most roller shades. No wiring or cord tensioner is needed, so most people finish in under 30 minutes with a drill.

Is $107.08 a good price?

Walmart is the only store listing a new price as of November 5, 2026, so there is no recent range to judge against. Compare it with other 42-inch blackout cordless shades before buying.

Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?

Achim lists it for indoor use. The aluminum rods resist moisture, but the fabric is not rated for outdoor or high-humidity wet areas.
