Our take on the AGM Clarion 384 Thermal Scope

The AGM Clarion 384 is a thermal rifle scope built around a dual-focus objective lens that mechanically switches between a 25 mm lens at 2x base magnification and a 50 mm lens at 4.5x, so hunters get a wide field of view or a long reach without changing optics. The 384x288, 12-micron sensor is rated under 20 mK NETD and refreshes at 50 Hz, feeding a 1024x768 OLED display. It ships with two replaceable NE-4400 batteries for up to 11 hours of runtime, 16 GB of internal storage, on-board recording with sound, and Wi-Fi. The best new price is $2,695 at Cavanal Outdoor Supplies as of November 5, 2026, with three stores listing it new.

Pros
  • Dual lens switches between 2x/25 mm and 4.5x/50 mm without losing resolution
  • Under 20 mK NETD sensitivity is strong for a 384-class sensor
  • Two NE-4400 batteries included, up to 11 hours total runtime
  • 1024x768 OLED display and 50 Hz refresh keep the image smooth
  • 10 reticles, 4 colors and 5 zeroing profiles for multiple setups
  • Built-in recording with sound, 16 GB storage and Wi-Fi
Cons
  • 384x288 resolution shows less detail than 640-class sensors at long range
  • Mechanical lens switching adds a moving part and more bulk than a fixed lens
  • Base 2x magnification is high for close-range or wide-scan use
  • Premium price for a 384 sensor; 640 units cost more but resolve more

About the AGM Clarion 384 Thermal Scope

AGM Clarion 384 Thermal Scope

Features

The AGM Clarion 384 Thermal Scope is one of the most technologically advanced thermal scopes available. It was meticulously designed to solve a common problem faced by night hunters: selecting the appropriate lens size and sensor configuration to achieve the optimal base magnification and field of view for their specific application. The Clarion scope addresses this concern by incorporating a dual focus objective lens that mechanically alternates between two different internal lens sizes. This feature allows the user to effortlessly switch between a 25mm lens with a base magnification of 2x and a wider field of view, to a 50mm lens with a base magnification of 4.5x and a narrower field of view, without compromising the image resolution. This dual base magnification flexibility is a game-changer for hunters, providing the versatility to optimize their optic based on the specific geography and animals they are hunting.

Questions and answers

Is the Clarion 384 worth it over a fixed-lens thermal scope?
If you hunt both tight cover and open ground, the dual 2x/4.5x lens replaces two scopes and keeps resolution at both settings. If you only shoot at one distance, a fixed-lens 384 or a 640 sensor gives more image detail for similar money.
How does the Clarion 384 compare with a 640-resolution thermal scope?
A 640x480 sensor resolves finer detail and identifies animals farther out. The Clarion 384 trades that resolution for the dual-lens flexibility and a lower price.
What is the battery life and how are the batteries changed?
AGM rates it up to 11 hours using the replaceable NE-4400 Li-Ion pack, and two batteries are included. You swap the pack in the field rather than recharging a sealed internal cell.
What is the detection range?
AGM lists 1,200 m with the 25 mm lens and 2,600 m with the 50 mm lens, though real-world detection depends on conditions and target size.
What comes in the box?
The scope, two NE-4400 batteries, and the standard AGM accessories. Confirm the mount and charger with the seller before ordering.
When is the price lowest?
The best new price seen is $2,695 at Cavanal Outdoor Supplies as of November 5, 2026. Thermal optics tend to discount around hunting-season sales and after new models launch.
Where is the AGM Clarion 384 Thermal Scope cheapest?
At Cavanal Outdoor Supplies, for $2,695.00, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the AGM Clarion 384 Thermal Scope?
Rated 5 out of 5 from 2 ratings.
Where can I buy the AGM Clarion 384 Thermal Scope?
