Is the K271 MKII good for recording vocals?

Yes. The closed cups and tight seal keep headphone bleed out of the mic, and the auto-mute stops audio when you lift them off. That makes it a common choice for tracking.

Does it need a headphone amp?

Not strictly. At 55 ohms it plays from phones and laptops, but volume is limited on weak outputs. A small amp or audio interface gives cleaner headroom.

You get the K271 MKII, a detachable Mini-XLR cable and two sets of earpads, one leatherette and one velour. The cable is about 3 meters long.

How does it compare with the K240?

The K240 is semi-open and lets more sound in and out, with a slightly warmer tone. The K271 MKII is fully closed, isolates better and is the safer pick for recording.

Can I use it for DJing?

Yes. The closed design and swiveling cups suit cueing, and the detachable cable is easy to replace if it gets pulled. Bass is lighter than typical DJ headphones, though.

Wired studio headphones like this tend to dip during holiday sales and back-to-school promotions. Set a price alert and compare across stores rather than buying at list.

Our take on the AKG Pro Audio K271 MKII

The AKG K271 MKII is a closed-back wired studio headphone built for tracking, DJ work and monitoring where sound must not leak out. It uses a detachable Mini-XLR cable and ships with two sets of earpads, and it has a mute switch that cuts audio when you take the headphones off. It is a 55-ohm design, so it runs fine from a phone or laptop but benefits from an amp. No current price was supplied for this page, so check the live comparison before buying.
