Our take on the Alesis NITRO MAX KIT Eight-Piece Electronic Drum Kit with Headphones Package

The Alesis Nitro Max Kit is an eight-piece electronic drum set with mesh heads, an aluminum rack and a compact sound module. It is aimed at beginners and home players who want a quieter kit than rubber pads and a full layout with kick, snare, three toms, hi-hat, crash and ride. The package adds headphones for silent practice. It is one of the most affordable mesh-head kits in its class, and street prices for the kit alone typically sit well below $500, with this headphone bundle priced a little above the bare kit.

Questions and answers

Is the Alesis Nitro Max good for a complete beginner?
Yes. The layout is standard, the mesh pads are forgiving, and the module has practice features like a metronome and play-along tracks. It is one of the usual first-kit picks at this price.
How does it compare with the Alesis Nitro Mesh?
The Nitro Max is the newer, larger kit with a bigger snare, an improved rack and a redesigned module. The older Nitro Mesh is cheaper but has a smaller snare and fewer sounds.
Does it work with headphones and a computer?
Yes. There is a headphone output for silent practice, and USB-MIDI lets you record into a DAW or use drum software. The bundle includes a pair of headphones.
How big is the kit when set up?
It is a full-size layout, roughly five feet wide and deep once the pads and rack are spread out. It folds down for storage but still needs a few feet of floor space.
What is in the box?
The kit includes the rack, eight pads, kick tower, kick pedal, hi-hat pedal, drum key, cables, power supply and the headphones. Sticks are usually included as well.
When is it cheapest?
Electronic drum kits tend to drop during holiday sales and back-to-school promotions. Watch the price history rather than buying at full list.
