Our take on the Alienware 16" WQXGA OLED 240Hz Gaming Laptop Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus

A 16-inch gaming laptop with a 2560 x 1600 OLED panel running at 240Hz, an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus CPU and an NVIDIA GPU. It weighs 5.9 lb and pairs a 1TB SSD with 16GB of RAM. The OLED screen at 240Hz is the headline: deep blacks and fast motion in one panel, which few laptops at this size offer. RAM is the weak point for a machine at this tier, since 16GB is the floor for modern gaming and multitasking.

Best for
Gamers who want OLED contrast and 240Hz speed in one screen
Buyers who move a laptop between rooms but mostly play at a desk
Players of fast shooters and racing games
People who also watch video and want strong color and blacks
Pros
  • 2560 x 1600 OLED at 240Hz gives both contrast and fast response
  • Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus is a high-end HX-class CPU
  • 1TB SSD leaves room for a large game library
  • 5.9 lb is manageable for a 16-inch gaming laptop
  • NVIDIA discrete graphics handles current titles at the native resolution
Cons
  • 16GB RAM is tight for this class; many rivals ship 32GB
  • OLED panels can dim over years of static HUD elements
  • 5.9 lb plus a large power brick is heavy for daily carrying
  • 240Hz OLED drains battery fast; expect short unplugged sessions
  • No listed port or upgrade details to confirm RAM is user-replaceable

Questions and answers

Is 16GB of RAM enough for this laptop?
For most current games at 1600p it works, but some titles and heavy multitasking push past 16GB. If you stream, edit video or keep many tabs open, 32GB is the safer choice.
Is the OLED screen worth it over an IPS panel?
Yes for contrast, black levels and color. The trade-off is potential long-term brightness loss from static elements like HUDs, so use screensavers and avoid leaving a static image up.
How does it compare with the previous Alienware 16?
The main change is the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus CPU. The 240Hz OLED and 1600p resolution carry over, so the upgrade matters most if you are CPU-bound.
Can it run games at 240fps?
Only in lighter titles like esports shooters at lower settings. Demanding games will run well below 240fps at native 1600p, though the panel still smooths motion.
What comes in the box?
The laptop, a power adapter and cable, and standard paperwork. No mouse or headset is included.
When is the price lowest?
Gaming laptops like this tend to drop during back-to-school and Black Friday sales, and again when a new generation launches. Check the price history before buying.
