Our take on the Anglepoise Type 75 Desk Lamp

The Anglepoise Type 75 is a large articulated desk lamp built around the brand's constant-tension spring system, so the arm holds its position wherever you set it. It has an aluminum shade and arms, chrome fittings and a heavy cast-iron base, with a 26-inch maximum reach and a switch on the shade. It takes a standard E26 bulb, which is included. At $320 at Amazon as of November 6, 2026, it sits at the top of what this lamp has recently cost, so it is not a bargain moment.

Best forDesks where the lamp is a design pieceReaders and workers who reposition the light oftenBuyers who want a heavy, stable basePeople replacing a flimsy task lamp
Pros
  • Constant-tension springs hold the arm at any angle
  • 26-inch reach covers a wide desk area
  • Cast-iron base keeps it planted when the arm is extended
  • Standard E26 socket, so bulbs are cheap and easy to find
  • Shade switch means no reaching for a cord switch
Cons
  • $320 is the high end of its recent price range
  • Heavy cast-iron base is awkward to move between rooms
  • Takes a full-size bulb, so the shade is bulky on small desks
  • No dimming built in; brightness depends on the bulb you fit

What reviewers say

Owners of the Type 75 tend to praise the spring mechanism and the solid, weighty build, and many treat it as furniture as much as lighting. The main complaints are the price and the size of the base on a small desk.

Questions and answers

Is the Anglepoise Type 75 worth $320?
If you want a lamp that holds any position and looks good doing it, yes. If you only need light on a desk, a cheaper task lamp does the job. At $320 at Amazon as of November 6, 2026, it is at the top of its recent range.
What bulb does it take?
A standard E26 bulb, and one is included. You can swap in an LED or a warmer bulb without any adapter.
How much desk space does the base need?
The base is 7.9 inches across and made of cast iron, so plan for a solid footprint. The arm reaches up to 26 inches from base to shade.
Can it reach across a wide desk?
Yes. The 26-inch maximum reach lets the shade sit well away from the base, and the springs hold it there.
Does it dim?
Not on its own. There is a switch on the shade, and dimming depends on fitting a dimmable bulb and a dimmer.
Is it good for reading in bed or only for a desk?
It works beside a bed too, but the cast-iron base and 78.7-inch cable suit a fixed spot rather than something you move nightly.
Where is the Anglepoise Type 75 Desk Lamp cheapest?
At Amazon, for $320.00, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Anglepoise Type 75 Desk Lamp?
2 stores we checked sell it, including Bellacor, Amazon.
