Is the Tolomeo worth $495?

If you want a design icon with precise, stable positioning, yes. Cheaper articulated lamps exist but rarely match the build or resale value.

Does it come with a bulb?

Many versions ship without a bulb. Check the listing for the included bulb type before buying.

What bulb does it take?

Most current Tolomeo table versions take an E26 LED or halogen bulb; older and halogen-specific models vary, so confirm the socket on the listing.

The standard version has no dimmer. Dimming requires a dimmable bulb and, on some models, an inline dimmer switch.

The standard table version has a roughly 28-inch reach and a base about 9 inches across; check the specific model for exact dimensions.

Discounts are rare and usually small. Watch for seasonal sales at design retailers rather than expecting deep cuts.

Our take on the Artemide Tolomeo Table Lamp

The Tolomeo is Artemide's classic articulated desk lamp, designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina in 1987. Its spring-balanced aluminum arms and tilting, rotating head let you aim light precisely, and the polished silver finish has stayed unchanged for decades. At $495 at Amazon as of November 6, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range; the lamp rarely discounts deeply because it is a design icon rather than a mass-market fixture.
