Our take on the Apple 15.4" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

This is the 2017-era 15-inch MacBook Pro: a quad-core Intel Core i7 at 2.8 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD and AMD Radeon Pro graphics on a 2880 x 1800 Retina display, with the Touch Bar and Touch ID. It weighs about 4 lb and has only USB-C ports plus a headphone jack. At $278.19 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, it is far below what this model sold for new, but it is a discontinued Intel machine that no longer gets current macOS updates.

Questions and answers

Is this MacBook Pro worth buying in 2026?
Only as a cheap way to get a big Retina screen and macOS for light work. At $278.19 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026 it costs less than most budget laptops, but it is slow by current standards and past its software support.
Can it run the latest macOS?
No. This 15-inch Intel model stopped at macOS Monterey, so newer apps may not install and security updates are limited. Check the app requirements before you buy.
How does it compare to an M1 MacBook Air?
The M1 Air is faster, cooler, silent and still gets current macOS, usually for a few hundred dollars more. Choose this one only if the 15-inch screen matters more than speed and longevity.
What comes in the box?
Expect the laptop and a USB-C power adapter and cable if the listing is complete. Confirm the charger is included, since used units often ship without one.
Is the battery still good?
Apple rated it at 10 hours when new, but a machine this age likely holds less. Ask the seller for the battery cycle count and condition before buying.
When is it cheapest?
Prices on discontinued Intel MacBooks keep drifting down, and clearance or refurbished listings tend to be lowest around major sales events. Compare against the single new price of $278.19 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026.
Where is the Apple 15.4" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar cheapest?
At Walmart, for $278.19, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Apple 15.4" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar?
Rated 4.6 out of 5 from 61 ratings.
Where can I buy the Apple 15.4" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar?
3 stores we checked sell it, including eBay, Adorama, Walmart.
