Our take on the Apple iPad (10.2-inch iPad Wi-Fi, 256GB) - Space Grey (9th Generation)

The 9th-generation iPad is Apple's 2021 entry-level tablet, with a 10.2-inch 2160 x 1620 display, the A13 Bionic chip, 3 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage in this configuration. It keeps the headphone jack and Touch ID home button that later iPads dropped, and it runs iPadOS with Apple Pencil (1st generation) support. At $325 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, this 256 GB Wi-Fi model sits near the top of its recent range, since the line has been discounted heavily as newer models arrived.

Questions and answers

Is the 9th-generation iPad still worth buying?
Yes if you want a cheap, reliable iPad for streaming, browsing, notes and schoolwork. It is a poor fit if you need USB-C, a laminated screen or heavy multitasking.
How does it compare with the 10th-generation iPad?
The 10th-gen has a larger 10.9-inch screen, USB-C, a faster A14 chip and a better front camera, but costs more and needs different Pencil adapters. The 9th-gen wins on price and keeps the headphone jack.
Does it work with the Apple Pencil?
It supports the Apple Pencil (1st generation), which charges through the Lightning port. The USB-C Pencil and Pencil 2 do not work with it.
How much storage do I need?
This 256 GB model suits people who download movies, games and large app libraries. For web browsing and streaming only, 64 GB is usually enough.
Is this a Wi-Fi-only model?
This listing is the Wi-Fi model. Cellular versions exist but cost more and need a data plan.
When is it cheapest?
Prices on the 9th-gen iPad have fallen most around Black Friday and back-to-school sales, and after each new iPad launch. At $325 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it is near its recent high, so waiting for a sale is reasonable.
