Our take on the Apple MacBook Air 15-inch M4 24GB 1TB

The MacBook Air 15-inch M4 is Apple's larger fanless laptop, pairing a 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display with the M4 chip and a 66.5-watt-hour battery rated for up to 18 hours of video streaming. It stays thin and silent, has two Thunderbolt 4 ports plus MagSafe charging, and supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. The 24GB/1TB configuration is a high-memory, high-storage build aimed at people who keep many apps and large files open. Cons
  • 60Hz refresh rate feels dated next to 120Hz laptops
  • Only two Thunderbolt 4 ports; dongles likely for wired peripherals
  • No Face ID, and the notch cuts into the menu bar
  • Memory and storage are fixed at purchase, so buy the right config up front
  • 15-inch size is less portable than the 13-inch Air

Questions and answers

Is the M4 MacBook Air 15-inch worth it over the M3 model?
If you already own an M3 Air, the jump is modest and not worth the spend. Buyers coming from Intel Macs or older Airs get a clear gain in speed, battery life and display size.
Is 24GB of memory enough for video editing?
Yes for 4K editing in Final Cut Pro or Premiere with moderate effects. Heavy multicam, 8K or large 3D scenes will want a MacBook Pro with more memory and active cooling.
How many external monitors can it drive?
With the lid closed it supports up to two external displays at up to 6K, and one external display at up to 6K with the lid open. Plan on Thunderbolt or USB-C connections.
What comes in the box?
The laptop, a USB-C to MagSafe 3 charging cable and a USB-C power adapter. The adapter wattage varies by configuration, so confirm it on the listing.
When is the best time to buy?
Prices tend to dip during back-to-school season, Black Friday and after new model announcements. Compare across stores and check the price history before buying.
What do buyers say about the Apple MacBook Air 15-inch M4 24GB 1TB?
Rated 4.8 out of 5 from 1,500 ratings.
