Questions and answers

Are these pencils good for beginners?
Yes. They work like normal colored pencils dry and turn into washes with a damp brush, so you can learn watercolor effects without buying paints. The 72-color range covers most basic mixing needs.
How do they compare with standard colored pencils?
Dry, they behave like ordinary colored pencils with fine points. The difference is that the pigment reactivates with water, letting you blend and create washes that regular colored pencils cannot.
Do I need special paper?
Heavy watercolor or mixed-media paper handles the water best. Thin copy paper will buckle and pill when you add a wet brush.
What is included in the tin?
The set includes the 72 watercolor pencils in a tin case. No brush or sharpener is listed, so plan to supply your own.
When is the best time to buy this set?
Art supply sets usually dip during back-to-school and holiday sales. Check the price history on this page and buy when the current price sits near the low end of its recent range.
