Our take on the Ashley Furniture Brinley Power Recliner

The Brinley is a power recliner from Ashley Furniture with a remote-controlled recline, a no-gap footrest and a wall-hugger design that needs little clearance behind it. It measures 39 inches wide, 40.5 inches deep and 44 inches high, and weighs about 80 pounds. The seat is 17 inches wide and 22 inches deep, so it is a snug fit for larger sitters. It is made in the USA. No current price was provided, so check the latest store prices and the price history before buying.

  • Bulkier footprint than a manual wall-hugger at 40.5 inches deep

Questions and answers

Is the Brinley power recliner worth it?
It is a reasonable pick if you want a wall-hugger power recliner made in the USA and do not need a wide seat. Compare its price against Ashley's manual Brinley and against other power wall-huggers before deciding.
How much wall clearance does it need?
As a wall recliner, it needs only a few inches behind the back, far less than a standard recliner. Leave enough room for the power cord and adapter.
What are the seat dimensions?
The seat is 17 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 21 inches high from the floor. That width is on the narrow side, so sit in one first if you are broad-shouldered.
Does it come with a remote or a button panel?
It reclines by remote control, not a side button or lever. The remote runs on batteries and is not wired to the chair.
Can I use it during a power outage?
No. The motor needs household power, so the chair stays in its last position in a blackout. There is no battery backup listed.
When is the best time to buy?
Ashley and its retailers discount recliners around major holiday sales and Labor Day and Memorial Day events. Watch the price history to see whether the current price is above or below its usual range.
