Our take on the Ashley Sharlance Lift-Top Coffee Table

The Ashley Sharlance is a 42-inch rectangular lift-top coffee table in a light brown hickory veneer finish, built on hardwood solids and MDF. The top raises toward you for eating or working from the sofa, and casters let you roll it out of the way. A drawer adds hidden storage. At $489.99 at American Furniture Outlet as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range across the 5 stores that price it new.

Pros
  • Lift-top raises the surface for eating, laptops and crafts

  • Drawer keeps remotes and small items out of sight
  • Hickory veneer over hardwood solids gives a real wood look
  • 42-inch square-ish top fits most sofa setups
Cons
  • Assembly required
  • Heavy at 123 lbs, so moving it upstairs is a two-person job
  • MDF substrate in the build, not solid wood throughout
  • Lift mechanism adds height and a hinge area on the top
