Our take on the ASUS Strix Laptop 16.0 WUXGA Display Ryzen 9 8940HX 16GB DDR5 1TB PCIe SSD

The ASUS ROG Strix 16 is a gaming laptop built around AMD's Ryzen 9 8940HX, a 16-core desktop-class chip, paired with 16GB of DDR5 and a 1TB PCIe SSD. The 16-inch WUXGA display keeps resolution modest, which is easier on the GPU than a 1440p or 4K panel. It ships with Windows 11 Pro, aimed at gamers who also want a work-ready machine. At $2,159.99 at Best Buy as of November 7, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range, so there is little discount to be had right now.

Questions and answers

Is the Ryzen 9 8940HX good for gaming?
Yes. It is a 16-core chip that handles games and streaming or recording at the same time without strain. Most games will be limited by the graphics card, not this CPU.
Can I upgrade the RAM and storage?
ROG Strix 16 models typically have accessible SO-DIMM slots and a second M.2 slot. Check the exact configuration, but 16GB is usually easy to expand to 32GB.
Is 16GB of RAM enough?
For gaming alone, yes. For heavy multitasking, video editing or many browser tabs alongside a game, 32GB is a safer choice at this price.
What is in the box?
