Our take on the ATS-20+ Plus ATS20 V2 SI4732 Radio Receiver DSP SDR Receiver FM AM and SSB
The ATS-20+ is a small, inexpensive shortwave receiver built around the Silicon Labs SI4732 DSP chip. It tunes AM, FM and SSB, which is unusual at this price, and it is popular with hobbyists who want a cheap way into shortwave listening and SDR-style tuning. It is a bare-bones radio: no crank, no solar, and no weatherproofing.
- SI4732 DSP chip gives stable digital tuning
- Receives SSB, which many cheap radios skip
- Small and light enough for a pocket or bag
- Very low price for an SSB-capable receiver
- Simple controls and a clear display
- Weak speaker; headphones or an external antenna help a lot

What reviewers say
Owners treat the ATS-20+ as a cheap entry point into shortwave and SSB listening. Most say it works well for the price once a decent antenna is attached, and many accept the small speaker and fiddly SSB tuning as trade-offs.
- SSB receptionPraisedOwners like that a radio this cheap can pull in SSB, though it takes patience to tune.
- AudioCriticisedThe built-in speaker is thin and quiet, so many listeners use headphones.
- SensitivityMixedReception is fine on strong signals but needs an external antenna for weaker stations.
Questions and answers
- Does the ATS-20+ receive SSB?
- Yes. It tunes single sideband as well as AM and FM, which is rare at this price. SSB takes careful tuning to sound clear.
- Do I need an external antenna?
- For strong local stations the stock setup is enough. For distant shortwave signals an external wire antenna makes a large difference.
- Is it a good first shortwave radio?
- Yes, if you want to learn on a cheap SSB-capable set. Expect modest audio and sensitivity compared with more expensive receivers.
- Does it have a hand crank or solar charging?
- No. It runs on its own power source only, with no crank or solar panel.
- What is in the box?
- The radio itself with its standard accessories. Check the listing for the included antenna and cable before buying.
- Where can I buy the ATS-20+ Plus ATS20 V2 SI4732 Radio Receiver DSP SDR Receiver FM AM and SSB?
