Questions and answers

Is Media Composer worth it over Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve?
If you cut scripted TV or film or work in a shared Avid facility, the ScriptSync workflow and industry compatibility justify it. For solo and short-form work, Resolve's free tier or Premiere's broader ecosystem may cost less.
What is the difference between this and Media Composer Ultimate?
This subscription covers the core editor with ScriptSync and PhraseFind. Ultimate adds shared-storage and remote collaboration tools for larger teams.
What are the computer requirements?
You need an Avid-qualified Mac or Windows machine; Avid publishes a list of approved systems and GPUs. Unqualified hardware may work but is not supported.
What is included in the one-year subscription?
A single-user license for one year, software updates, support, and the ScriptSync and PhraseFind options. It is a download; no media is shipped.
Can I install it on more than one computer?
The license is for one user, and activation can be moved between machines through Avid's licensing tools. Concurrent use on two systems requires separate licenses.
When is the best time to buy?
Avid runs periodic promotions around trade shows and year-end, and resellers discount the annual subscription. Compare the three new listings before renewing.
Where is the Avid Media Composer cheapest?
At AValive, for $199.00, 60% under what the other stores charge, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Avid Media Composer?
3 stores we checked sell it, including AValive, Creation Networks, Novedge.
