Pros
  • Two humbuckers cover rock, blues and clean tones
  • Duesenberg Les Trem adds vibrato without a locking nut
  • 24 3/4-inch scale and 1 5/8-inch nut suit smaller hands
  • Mahogany body and neck give a warm, mid-forward voice
  • Left-handed version is available
Cons
  • About 8 lbs is heavy for long standing sets
  • Single-cutaway offset shape is polarizing
  • Les Trem is less stable than a Floyd Rose for dive bombs

Questions and answers

Is the Backlund Model 400 DLX worth $1,199?
At $1,199.00 at Eastwood Guitars as of November 7, 2026, it sits in the mid-premium range for a mahogany guitar with two humbuckers and a Duesenberg tremolo. Whether it is worth it depends on how much you value the offset styling and the Les Trem.
Does it stay in tune with the tremolo?
The Duesenberg Les Trem is a floating vibrato that works without a locking nut, so gentle use holds tune well. Heavy dive bombing will pull it sharp, so retune after aggressive playing.
Is a left-handed version available?
Yes. Backlund offers the Model 400 DLX in both right-handed and left-handed orientation.
What is the scale length and nut width?
It has a 24 3/4-inch scale length and a 1 5/8-inch nut width, close to a Gibson-style feel.
What pickups does it have?
It has two humbuckers, one in the neck and one in the bridge, for a fuller, noiseless tone than single coils.
When is it cheapest?
Only two stores list it new, and the best price seen is $1,199.00 at Eastwood Guitars as of November 7, 2026. Check the price history before buying to see if it has dropped below that.
